Elliptical metal column casings for Wednesbury health centre.
The Spires Health Centre in Wednesbury, West Midlands, is using two bespoke metal column casings from the Pendock Radius range to conceal structural steelwork used to support the building’s delta shaped main entrance canopy.
Named in honour of Richard Nugent, a former chair of Sandwell Primary Care Trust, the building was designed by Urban Design & Building Services (UDBS), a specialist design and maintenance team within Sandwell Council, healthcare facilities, and includes a suite of consulting, treatment and meeting rooms, plus an ambulance drop-off area.
The two metal column casings were manufactured by Pendock from 2mm thick aluminium and formed into ellipses measuring 560mm by 380mm, to enclose the health centre’s two ‘I’ section steel canopy supports, which helps minimise the column casing footprint and reduce their overall size.
Incorporating a matt PPC finish, in RAL 7005, Mouse Grey, each column casing uses a two-piece stacked construction to reach their respective heights of 6.8 metres and 5.9 metres, while integral collars provide a neat finish where the casings meet the ground and the canopy soffit.
As the column casings are situated outside, their aluminium construction and PPC finish makes them inherently weather and corrosion resistant, as well as being durable and ideal for applications with high levels of footfall, including health, education and retail.
Metal column casings, such as those installed at The Richard Nugent Centre, form part of the Pendock Radius range, which also includes circular, square and bespoke casings, which can be manufactured from a range of materials including MDF, pre-formed plywood and GRG, as well as stainless steel and GRP options.
