Pendock columns greet patients at new Ashford hospital

A brand new private healthcare facility in East Kent has been completed with the project’s architects choosing Pendock to supply the imposing pairs of column casings, which flank both the main reception desk and another check-in point within the building. The One Ashford Hospital has been funded by Octopus Healthcare and offers a wide selection of services including 10 consulting rooms, three operating theatres with another held in reserve, 20 en-suite rooms and an MRI scanning suite, plus 10 ambulatory care beds. Octopus Healthcare describes itself as the leading developer and facilities manager for innovative and purpose designed medical facilities: providing specialist asset management expertise and performance, through a dynamic property portfolio. The Chief Executive of One Healthcare, Adrian Stevenson, commented: “Our objective is to provide the very best level of care, delivered by leading consultants, within specially built and strategically located hospital facilities across the UK.

We are delighted our vision is coming to life with the help of our contractors. ”The quality of that vision for its premises can clearly be seen in the design of the two reception areas – whose architectural style could readily be transplanted into a top class hotel or a commercial business headquarters – with the Pendock column casings adding their own element of elegance. Making a clear visual statement as well as concealing the much more mundane structural columns, the casings have been supplied in a traditional Egger Alabaster colour, with black laminate recessed collars around their bases. One pair was fabricated to stand 3.6 metres in height, while the ones either side of the main reception measure 3300mm and 2550 mm tall, where the latter is mounted atop the desk itself.

All of them measure 705 mm front to back and are faced with a highly stable and durable laminate to resist the inevitable abrasion of a high traffic area and potentially even impacts from trolleys or cleaning equipment. Pendock provides a bespoke design, manufacture and supply service – including survey and installation – as required by clients from across the retail, commercial, leisure, medical and other sectors.
