Pendock’s columns take off at the O2
The Hub, which was formed in 2005 as a Specialist Fit-out Contractor to the Museums & Heritage Sector and has since built an enviable reputation within the industry, has specified decorative column casings from Pendock for its latest project carried out in Greenwich’s most prominent landmark. Virgin Atlantic Airways and Delta Air Lines, the official airline partners of The O2, launched the glamorous NY-LON Lounge Bar during the summer: having the capacity for up to 300 guests within the Turbine Lounge – a large bar and seating area – while an additional “Secret Meeting room” can cater for meetings, private dining or other events in an intimate setting.
Designed by the Manchester based consultancy, LOVE, the stunning aviation inspired 6,000-square foot space features two round and two square columns supplied by UK-based specialist, Pendock. The decorative, stainless steel 304 columns feature a mirror finish outer skin, with a 6mm protective acoustic layer. The Pendock range of metal casings is supplied as a complete system: including an integral carrier arrangement, joint infills and mullions. Each floor to ceiling casing produced for the NY-LON Lounge stands 2850mm tall; two with a diameter of 700mm and two 550mm square. Additionally, Pendock provided all the fixings and fixing cover channels: including top and bottom collars and semi-circular trim sections.
The visual impact is very much in keeping with the aviation theme of the new lounge bar, which honours the airlines’ important New York – London route. The luxury, ultra-modern décor is mainly fitted out in warm browns and tans while the columns reflect the muted light and furnishings to great effect, mimicking the curves created in the walls and by the lighting.
NY-LON is being managed on behalf of the two airlines by leading hospitality brand, Levy Restaurants UK, offering a menu highlighting U.S. and British cuisine, as well as aviation themed cocktails. Importantly for the venue’s management, the stainless steel columns should prove hardwearing, being resistant to spillages or other marks and requiring very little maintenance.
